Wine Spectator 2005, 2004 and 2003: Best of Excellence

The prestigious US based Wine Spectator magazine has awarded Wharekauhau’s wine list with a “Best of Award of Excellence”.

This is the third time in the history of the award that this level has been achieved by a New Zealand operation. All three times, the award has gone to Wharekauhau.

Each year since 1981, the editors of Wine Spectator have honoured a very special breed of restaurants—those that give wine a leading role in the dining experience through their wine lists. Entrants apply from around the world, and their lists are judged on the breadth, depth and scope of wines that are offered, as well as the manner in which they are served. No other wine award programme carries such credibility, or reaches more wine-loving diners. Winning restaurants are listed in Wine Spectator’s annual Dining Guide, referred to by 1.5 million readers around the world.

Out of over 3,606 establishments in 46 countries, less than 15% of entrants won this award. This is the third consecutive year Wharekauhau has won and we are delighted with the result. We now feel that there is no doubt about the standard of our wine list, so we will not be entering this particular competition again.
