New Zealand is regarded as a fly fishing utopia and we are lucky that one of the best kept fly fishing secret-spots can be found a short helicopter flight from the lodges front lawn. -The rivers of the the Tararua Ranges.
A full-day out with a professional guide is the best way to fish the remote rivers. All 3 rivers have some of the most spectacular scenery New Zealand has to offer. Crystal clear pools and large fish are a highlight of these isolated river systems. Trophy size trout can be caught, and the late summer-time cicada fishing is incredible. ‘Nymphing’ and ‘Dry-Fly’ fishing the many deep pools and runs, can produce good numbers of hookups in a day's fishing.
There are 3 rivers to choose from and 4 drop off points. - Tauherenikau at Tutawae Hut, Waingnawa at Cow Creek and the Waiohine at Totara Flats or Mid-Waiohine.

A NOTE FROM THE GUIDE;
A reasonable level of fitness is required for these remote fishing excursions. The Tauherenikau and the Waiohine at Totara Flats are the easiest to navigate of the 4 options. However, there is the option of being leap-frogged by helicopter to fishing locations for those wanting less walking. There will be an additional cost for this, and we would need to plan this in advance.
