We are a small tight-knit team that manages the properties various aspects. To learn a little more about the 'family' that will be taking great care of you please see below.

Owners | Bill & Carol Foley

They came back to NZ in 2010 to buy a vineyard, and subsequently feel in love with Wharekauhau and left with a lodge and vineyard. The Foley family are deeply involved in Wharekauhau, our community and our small team of long-standing staff.

General Manager | Richard Rooney

Richard has been with Wharekauhau since 2006. This is the perfect lodge for Richard who grew up on a farm, and has worked across four of the luxury lodges in New Zealand since he was 15. He has a keen passion for Pinot Noir, and his Labrador 'Melot'

Executive Chef | Marc Soper

Chef Marc joined the Wharekauhau family in 2014 and is responsible for managing the kitchen, and food story of Wharekauhau. Marc is a dedicated food forager, and loves nothing more than when guests want to join him in the garden or foraging mission

Restaurant Manager | Grant Wagner

A big sports fan and all-round community man! Grant joined the team in 2016 by way of South Africa. Grant has a wealth of restaurant knowledge from his stints in South Africa and Europe. Grants role is to oversee the restaurant and service elements

Sommelier | Adrien Champigny

Adrien and his partner Audrrey joined us in 2018 after 10 years at the St-James hotel in Bordeaux, France. A great man to rummage through some old bottles in the cellar with.His knowledge of wine, and passion for boutique producers is second-to-none.

Infrastructure Manager | Ian Hunt

Ian joined the team in 2007. Ians main focus is to manage the new development, and existing infrastructure on the estate. Ian is experienced in bush-craft and often takes guests out on tours of the estate so he can share his knowledge and passion
